The Costa Tropical is not as well known as the neighbouring Costa del Sol to the west. The Costa Tropical of Granada province is particularly picturesque, less busy, and easier to get away from the crowds. Water sports and scuba diving are popular on the Costa Tropical, due to the variety of sea life and clear sea water in this part of Spain. The towns in this part of Spain that are becoming increasingly popular among foreign residents are, Salobreña the white village, pretty and unspoilt La Herradura and the attractive town of Almuñecar.
The old town centre of Almuñécar is a historical, sightseeing and cultural treasure-trove. The genuine heart of Almuñécar is located around the Castle of San Miguel, which inspired the name of this old quarter, "Castillo" or "San Miguel". The streets of Almuñécar are paved with traditional Almuñécar cobblestones, and there are innumerable little squares, patios and corners where neighbours pause to chat.
Castell de Ferro is situated on the Costa Tropical (Granada coast) and its main economic activity is fishing. It is well connected with Malaga, Granada and Almeria. The village offers tranquility but it doesn’t lack all the modern amenities. There are shops, supermarkets, sports centre, school and a clinic. The closest golf course is about 20 minutes away.
Motril is the largest town on the Costa tropical with 50,000 inhabitants. Is it a commercial town that benefits from the tropical fruit and flower producers in the area. The town of Motril is located just off the main coast road between Almeria and Malaga where the N325 turns inland for Granada. Most tourists by pass the town of Motril but it is a good place to go shopping and visit the Marina Motril Club Nautico.
